Series order and cast
Hulu has given a series order to Ryan Coogler’s reboot of “The X-Files,” starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel. Coogler wrote and directed the pilot and will serve as an executive producer, with Jennifer Yale as showrunner.
According to the show’s logline, the stars play two highly decorated but very different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond after being assigned to a long-shuttered division investigating unexplained phenomena. Variety reports, citing a source, that they will play new characters rather than versions of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder.
Creative team
Original series creator Chris Carter is an executive producer alongside Coogler, Yale, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. Deadwyler, Patel and Proximity Media’s Simone Harris are co-executive producers. Proximity Media and 20th Television are producing the series; The Hollywood Reporter also lists Onyx Collective.
Coogler said the team wanted to honor what made the original series connect with audiences while finding its own approach to that world. Ludwig Göransson contributed the score for the pilot, according to a statement from Proximity’s co-founders.
A new chapter for the franchise
Created by Carter, “The X-Files” originally aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002 and spawned two feature films. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny starred as Scully and Mulder and returned for revival seasons in 2016 and 2018.
The new series reunites Deadwyler and Patel, who previously appeared together in the miniseries “Station Eleven.”
