Rising in the rankings
The Green Bay Packers enter Week 6 at 3-2 after consecutive wins, recovering from a loss to the Atlanta Falcons that left them at 1-2. Yahoo Sports reports that most analysts had placed Green Bay among the league’s bottom 10 teams after that defeat.
The Packers climbed 10 spots in CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco’s latest power rankings. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio moved them from No. 23 to No. 11, according to Yahoo Sports.
A crowded wild-card race
Green Bay currently holds the NFC’s top wild-card position, but the teams occupying fifth through eighth place are all tied at 3-2. The Los Angeles Rams sit ninth at 2-3, according to Yahoo Sports’ account of the standings.
All four NFC North teams would qualify for the postseason if the season ended at this point, Yahoo Sports reports.
Week 6 carries playoff weight
The Athletic’s simulations, as reported by Yahoo Sports, give Green Bay a 38 percent chance of making the playoffs and an 11 percent chance of winning the NFC North. Both figures are the lowest among teams in the division.
Those projections put the Packers’ postseason chances at 48 percent with a Week 6 win, compared with 27 percent with a loss. Yahoo Sports reports that Green Bay is tied with the Chicago Bears and Rams for the NFC’s largest win-versus-loss swing in playoff probability that week.
