No immediate bid
Anthony Baffoe says he has no immediate plans to contest the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency, despite being tipped as a potential contender in the 2027 elections.
“I have said no on multiple occasions,” Baffoe told 3Sports. “It does not drive me, but I don't know what is going to happen in six months, or twelve or twenty-four months.” He added: “For now, I don’t see myself there, but you never know tomorrow.”
Playing and administrative experience
Baffoe, 61, was born in Germany and represented Ghana between 1991 and 1994 before moving into football administration. He later served as the Confederation of African Football’s Deputy Secretary General for Football and Development.
His administrative experience has fuelled speculation about a possible move into GFA leadership. Incumbent president Kurt Okraku has led the association since 2019.
Pressure on the incumbent
MyJoyOnline reports that Okraku has faced increasing pressure following a slump in the Black Stars’ form. Ghana lost their opening two qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, including a 4-2 home defeat by The Gambia after an opening loss to Ivory Coast.
Those results left Ghana bottom of Group C without a point, while Ivory Coast and The Gambia had six points each, according to the report.
