Parsons faults Daniels
Green Bay Packers pass rusher Micah Parsons sharply criticized Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels on his podcast after Sunday’s 27-27 tie with the New York Giants. “Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job, to be honest with you,” Parsons said, predicting consequences for Washington’s head coach.
Parsons called Daniels’ handling of the final sequence “inexcusable,” arguing that a quarterback in his third NFL season should understand the situation. Parsons is close with Quinn, who was his defensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys from 2021 through 2023.
How overtime ended
Washington reached the Giants’ 24-yard line with 50 seconds remaining in overtime but did not snap the ball again until 12 seconds remained. With no timeouts left, Daniels dropped back after a fake handoff, began scrambling and was tackled with eight seconds to play.
Daniels and other players were slow to get up and return to the line. The Commanders ran out of time to spike the ball and set up a potential winning field goal attempt. The tie left Washington with a 1-3-1 record.
Daniels and Quinn take responsibility
After the game, Daniels said the offense needed to know and communicate the situation. “It starts with everyone, top down. Ultimately, it’s on me,” he said.
Quinn said Monday that offensive coordinator David Blough called the last play, but that responsibility ultimately rested with him. “All of that comes through me,” Quinn said. He also said he had met with owner Josh Harris, as he regularly does, and that no one was happy with the final sequence or the team’s record.
