Growth above regional average
The International Monetary Fund forecasts Ghana’s economy will expand by 5.7% in 2026, according to its October World Economic Outlook. That compares with growth of 6% in 2025 and a projected Sub-Saharan African average of 4.5% this year.
The forecast places Ghana among the region’s 10 fastest-growing economies. Although 3News reports that the IMF raised its 2026 projection, the expected growth rate remains below Ghana’s performance last year.
Lower inflation forecast
The IMF projects inflation of 4.8% in 2026 and an external surplus equivalent to 6% of gross domestic product. 3News attributes the improved outlook to fiscal discipline and strong gold earnings.
Focus on jobs and production
The government is preparing a New Economy initiative focused on value addition, job creation and sustained economic transformation.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has said stabilisation is a foundation for sustained growth, employment and long-term prosperity, rather than the ultimate objective. He attributed improving growth to domestic financing conditions, lower government borrowing costs and continued fiscal discipline as Ghana recovers from its 2022 debt crisis.
