Price and availability
Google has announced the Fitbit Edge, priced at $180 with a silicone Active Band. Pre-orders are open, with availability beginning Oct. 27. A Stephen Curry Special Edition costs $220.
Display and battery
The Edge has a hybrid OLED touchscreen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a side button for activating workouts and selecting information. At 11.5 mm thick, it is slightly thinner than the 12.3 mm Pixel Watch 5. It is also Google’s first repairable Fitbit.
Battery life is seven days with the always-on display disabled, or two days with it enabled.
Fitness features
On-device GPS lets users track outdoor activities without carrying a phone, although Google says it is less accurate than the Pixel Watch’s dual-band GPS. The Edge also includes ECG, blood oxygen, optical heart rate and skin temperature sensors, plus an altimeter.
Health data syncs to the Google Health app. The device includes three months of Google Health Premium, which provides access to the Gemini-powered Health Coach. Premium costs $10 a month and is also included with Google AI Pro; users can disable the coach.
Smartwatch limits
The Edge ships with fitness experiences and watch faces but does not allow users to download more. Its software is not a full version of WearOS. It can mirror phone notifications, but without a microphone or speaker, responses are limited to predefined quick replies.
The wearable does not support Gemini interactions on the device and lacks NFC for Google Wallet tap-to-pay.
