Ministers address cable damage
Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has engaged Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George and other stakeholders over recurring damage to fibre optic cables during road construction and rehabilitation across Ghana.
The meeting focused on improving coordination between road agencies, contractors and telecommunications service providers to prevent cable cuts and minimise communication service disruptions.
Earlier planning and protection
Participants called for better communication, early planning and closer collaboration between institutions responsible for road works and telecommunications infrastructure. They said this would help ensure cables are identified and protected before excavation and other construction activities begin.
The engagement is intended to safeguard essential infrastructure while allowing road projects to proceed smoothly, with improved cooperation expected to reduce avoidable damage and service interruptions.
