Suspension ordered
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately suspend Zakaria Abdulai, headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region, pending a full investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The ministry’s statement, issued on October 13, 2026, said the minister considered the allegations serious. According to MyJoyOnline, the directive followed a yet-to-be-aired investigation by JoyNews and Manasseh Azure Awuni.
Police inquiry requested
Iddrisu also requested that the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters of the Ghana Police Service investigate the allegations. The suspension is intended to allow investigations to proceed.
Duty to protect students
The ministry and GES reiterated that misconduct of this nature would not be tolerated in educational institutions. Their statement stressed that parents and guardians entrust children to teachers, whose responsibility is to protect and safeguard them, not abuse them.
